Bunny and Lazare

Some things maybe are meant to be. This one sure seems like it. Weve named her Lazare, 'was the only thing that stuck. A name thats something fierce so she can grow up strong. I think shes gonna be a little spitfire, in time. Bloodworks and test cleared her of illnesses so we got to take her home after a few days at the clinic. She just needs a lot of love and care and time. 

I remember Lazare in that pen, miserable and somewhere she aint ever been meant to be. 

Now, Az and I went to pick up little Lazare and she was looking better already. Skittish and scared and lonely still, but at least she was dry, checked by a vet and getting fed proper. Only been a few days so she was still looking thin.

I said hi to her and she didnt recognize me. That wasnt a surprise, didnt want to scare her too badly so we took the time to sit with her. It took over an hour, but she eventually came 'round a bit. Sniffed our boots and gave my pants a shy little nibble. Shes such a cute, precious little thing. Az and I agree that she deserves the world. 

We coaxed her into the trailer with a bottle. She was hungry, so much she forgot where she was walking while suckling. Once she was in, i stayed with her again. Not like anyone would control some random trailer here.

She handled the ride better than we thought, maybe couldnt comprehend what was going on. I was glad for it, really. 

Once home, we backed up to one of the barns- it kinda is just a massive stall. No inside walls, just one small barn full of shavings and some enrichment stuffs. And inside we had our secret weapon of sorts. Az' mare Bunny. Bunny adores foals, she takes to them no matter if theyre hers or not. They met before and Bunny tried to adopt her right in. Theres a whole lotta love that mare has to give.

We opened the door and let Lazare pick her way out. She was going slow, it mustve all been scary to her. We let her have the time, stood aside and watched over her. Az held onto Bunny for now, who had barely gotten a glimpse and was already smitten with the little black blob. Az was sure she remembered. It took much time, but Lazare eventually came out, she was being so brave. She took a good look around and startled some when Bunny gave a sweet greeting nicker. 

Then again, the filly looked like she just had waited and waited to hear something like it. She was cautious in wandering up to Bunny, eyes lit up with a new kinda spark. The two touched noses, Bunny rumbled and nickered and was going very slow. Shes a chaotic gremlin - and sensetive to others and somehow able to do just what they need. A real good girl she is. Lazaress caution goes away quick, she melts into what Bunny offers. Soon Bunny is tenderly nuzzling and loving on our little filly. And Lazare relaxes. Something shifts in her. Its not all gone, theres grief and fear, but Bunny is taking some of the nightmare away. Not an eye is dry watching the two. 

We leave them be, inside that quiet barn, where its warm and dry, the fresh straws rustling and Bunny is rumblin' lowly.
