Hello Reilly,
My name is Ceara. I'm reaching out to you today on a bit of a whim.
I'll be driving out in two weeks to the Canavan Show to compete, and I was talking to the O'Rourkes earlier this week. They were kind enough to give me your information, so that I might ask something a little silly.
I'm told that in years past, you had rather significant involvement in working with my mare, Yara. I've been lucky enough to own her for just going on six years, now, and I must say I'm a total Loshenka convert. To channel the energy of every overly attached horse owner I've ever come across, she's my heart horse. She's had a history of being very anxious, as I'm sure you'd know, but she's become a beautifully reliable mare and has turned out a fantastic little all-rounder, and I would be thrilled if you would take me up on the offer to come see the results of your hard work.
I hope you're staying warm with this unusually late spring chill. I look forward to hearing from you!
Ceara Locke

Ceara,
First of all, hello!! Delighted to make your virtual acquaintance!!
I'd heard that Yara had found herself a forever home not long after she finished her education at Niamh's and I'm thrilled to see that it's stuck!! She really was a magnetic personality when she left us, I'm glad she's made herself a home in your heart.
I will indeed be in town the weekend of the show, I'm wrangling CCE's entrants this year; I'm going to have my hands full with several things at once, but I'd be thrilled to pay a visit to you and the lovely Yara. What classes are you competing in?

Wonderful news!
I'm still tossing up on a couple other classes, but Yara and I will be competing in the breed classes, flat and in-hand. I'll get the ring times to you as soon as I can.

That's perfect! We've got several of our Loshenkas lined up for the same. I'm sure we'll see other O'Rourke stock in the ring as well. Let's hope the weather shapes up before you arrive.
It'll be easier to coordinate day-of if we're not trying to email each other between classes. My personal number is 0491 579 760.

I'm so excited I could explode!! I've really gotta stop misplacing this journal, I found it under my whites today. Why would I have been carrying this around doing the washing? Anyway. AAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
Yara's doing well!! She's gonna be coming to Canavan this weekend!! With her lovely owner, no less, to compete in the Show!!
I'm gonna be so tired.
But it'll be WORTH IT.
Ceara has been messaging me on and off for the past week or so. Mostly it's been the two of us trying to actually organise when to meet up, I've really got my hands full this year with June off on holidays. Smart of her to take off now, we just haven't been able to shake the winter chill here. It's got no business being this damn cold in November.I'm sure she's kicking back up on the north coast and getting heatstroke or something. Lucky.
Anyway.
We've mostly been chatting schedule-meshing, but Ceara's also been telling me more about Yara in general, and sending pictures, and wow.
Not kidding when she said she's smitten with this mare. It's adorable. Faith in humanity-restoring, even.
Perhaps cutest of all is the fact that apparently, Yara's still carting her teddy everywhere she goes. I can't believe that glorified dog toy is still in one piece, and yet Ceara sent me a video like twenty minutes ago of Yara playing tug-of-war with it, and I'd recognise those blue and orange octopus legs anywhere. It's beat up and she tells me they've had to perform emergency surgery on it like, three times, and apparently there's a story involving molasses that I need to hear in person, which tells me everything I'll ever need to know about her. Apparently she has a whole host of fidgets for Yara, but the octopus is still her favourite.
Ceara agists her at a property with several other horses currently, though from what I'm hearing, she doesn't seem to have much trouble with buddy sourness or stress related to separation from a herd setting. They apparently moved at the start of this year from south Vic right back up into NSW, so it's been a whole adjustment period that Yara has, apparently, handled like a champion. And there's a whole different circuit for Ceara to compete her in up here, which the two of them are apparently loving to bits. Back to their roots, she says. Yara's, anyway.
I know I'm like, optimism central, but this is just so heartwarming. I'm far from being the only person involved in making an impact on Yara and her future, but.
I did that.
We did that.
She's somebody's well-loved and trusted everyday mount. She's curious, and calm, and happy.
I'm so excited to see her in person after all these years. I was pretty sure I was never gonna hear anything about Yara ever again once I heard she'd been sold off interstate, and like, that's fair, I wasn't her breeder or anything, I'm just some guy who had my hands on the horse. But I have Ceara's socials now, since she does the whole pony-posting schtick, and since they're living up here now, so I can keep up with the two of them after. What are the chances??
I better get myself to bed, though. If I write much longer then my fingers are going to lock up while I'm teaching the kids to braid tomorrow.
