Big hair cut day

The black stallion towered over her. He wasnt displaying much, if any, interest towards her, but seemed a little more comfortable where they were- on a small patch of pasture that had been split off, with large, old trees giving them shade.
Azura had brought a pair of sturdy scissors and a stool to step on. It was high time for Scorchs haircut, a big one at that. His white mane and tail were long and luscious and he didnt like it. So far hed been seen scratching his neck way more often than any horse should and attempts of braiding had not alleviated this. The consensus was that he disliked both the mane touching his neck and the feeling of braids bunching it all up. He might do fine or better in winter, if warmth gathering was actually the issue, since neither a skin condition nor allergies had been found. His bill of health had been fully clear actually.
He seemed to like sunbathing though, so Azura really wasnt on team "its just too warm". She was almost certain is was a sensory thing.

Either way, now his mane had to go short. The idea was not to roach him, but to go for a short, standing cut. Azura really liked that kind of style, but so far having a majority of bald horses robbed her of the chance of making it a reality.
Scorch stood perfectly still, too still for Azuras liking. She couldnt tell what was going on inside of him, only make some rough guesses. She was set on learning more about him as time wore on. His eyes were moving at least, he seemed to like watching nature.
The very first thing that had to go was the forelock. It was an espechially big bother to him, no matter how anyone tried to style it.
The short mane turned out to be a good look. It certainly was a good chunk of work, the stallions prior owner had taken great care to grow it out. It was heavy and thick, each chunk cut out seemed to be replaced by another right away. But in the end, Azura and her scissors fought valiantly and won.
She liked the turnout, it was a very fitting style, but she was also a little biased towards it. Scorch looked to be at least not worse off so it was a win.

Once it was all gone and Azura had taken a few steps back to marvel at her work, Scorch, out of the blue, even felt like shaking himself off. Shed never seen him do that before and it was not only cute, but a step forward in her books. Getting his mane in order apparently was that big of a deal to him. His eyes were a little more relaxed as well, so Azura decided to keep going with the tail right away.
It wasnt as heavy or thick, but Scorch was hellbent on trying to chew on the longer strands. That wasnt an easy thing to do of course, mostly hed just snap at it, miss and look miffed. It was some of the most life hed ever shown to them, along with the constant itching of his neck. It was a pretty clear sign. Plus the short look would match the mane.
The undertaking yielded a big mount of pristine white mane and tail hairs. Azura decided to gather it all up and stash it in a bag, someone could probaply make use of it. Shed definitley take some for a bracelet.
She checked on Scorch once more. They werent fully done yet, his coat needed some trimming too. Besides being denser than a normal Loshenkas, it was also longer. His prior owner had preffered to let it grow as well, Azura didnt like that look on him however. It was a little too rugged. Trimming it back, even just as little as Azura wanted, wouldve taken a good while though. It wasnt a super pressing matter, so she decided to give him a break and leave it for another day.
The final step was to give Scorch a nice rinse. A full bath wouldve been quite the undertaking with all his insanely dense coat and the amount of product and scrubbing needed for a horse his size. Azura wasnt yet sure how hed like that, so a rinse of his neck had to do. She hoped itd help him feel a little more comfortable while also getting the small, cut hairs off.
She took him to where a nearby hose was located. So far he didnt seem to like being inside very much, so she decided to skip the washing hall. But he did seem to like being hosed down with cool water and she caught him doing his first little lip wiggle. She was so happy to see him express himself and made a mental note to hose him down more often on warm days. And maybe hed like getting a pool with ice in it too, like those husky dog videos shed seen? He was looking to be somewhat similar to a double coated dog after all.
There were so many ideas in her head for what she could try to do for him. Treats, games, new things she could introduce or explore. Currently she had trying to find his favourite treats.
He had shown to like beer, so he got one as a reward for having made it trough his haircut.
