Scorch is calm and a been there done that type. He loves to hack out and anything outdoorsy. Putting him a stall or other confined space works briefly, however after some time he will grow apathetic and respond mechanically to input.

He does not go out of his way to seek strangers affection, same for  horses, and is pretty indifferent to others. He once used to stare right trough everyone and everything, but has come to live again with his current owner in his forever home. While he doesnt give affection very freely he does love deeply and fiercly. It took him about a year of living in his home for him to finally start openly displaying affection and by all accounts, he tends to behave more like a puppy than a horse. For example, hell start out standing a few steps away from his owner, only to slowly inch closer and closer until theres no more personal space left and he gets attention. Scorch discovered that he does really like being pet and asks for it that way or by more or less subtle bodylanguage. He can be pretty goofy and silly when he feels safe and tends to cheer up his owner. While he may look all serious to others, hes growing ever goofier around his owner as the years pass by.

Sometimes he ignores people on purpose, this ranges from not reacting to their presence or attempts at grabbing his attention at all to walking by or bumping into them even as if hes not seen them there, however even then hell walk on acting none the wiser.

Hes not a fan of jumping. He can take surprisingly high obstacles- if he wants to.  Sometimes he does, others he doesnt. Hes very peculiar about what obstacle looks trustworthy or not and will grind to a halt if he decides last second it isnt. If he can tell from a distance beforehand, hell swerve around it apruptly and skillfully. Hell keep going too, so his rider needs to be prepared if they want him to take on an obstacle. Now he does jump beautifully if the course has the proper layout and the jump is aligned well enough. Hes also fine with stepping or hopping over obstacles in trail environments, where he does take some time to deliberate his exact steps.

His levels of patience vary widely depending on where he is. Outsides he can wait for his rider for hours on end, inside a stall or arena he grows antsy quickly and would rather be anywhere else.

He tends to treat scary or upsetting things with a flippant attitude, seemingly recovering quickly, but its born from training meant to make him tough without teaching him any coping skills. He doesnt truly take it that well. Stressors can build up beneath the surface easily and its important for his owner to look out for subtle signs and help him cope properly.

Scorch is a ride or die companion. Hes enduring and loves long rides and adventures, anything as long as its outsides. He meets new areas with couriosity and is willing, hellbent even, to take on new terrains and challenges, espechially if its to go with his owner.

His favourite toy is a squeaky chicken. If a horse was ever able to find something funny then its him with this chicken. He loves its sound and gets quite sad if it breaks, so theres a few extras kept in the back of some shed. Out of his reach though as one already is enough to be annoying. He can generally be bribed out of using it with apples or the promise of going out.

Bio:

Scorch was quite the lighthearted and easy going yearling and kept this attitude as he was started under saddle by a kind trainer. However as he aged he lost this spark, finding himself far from the open fields of his foalhood and cooped up in stalls instead. Day in and out he was inside, it was feared this expensive horse would injure himself the moment he was out as he tended to explode with energy when let out in the past. He was worked dor maybe an hour a day every couple of days, then out right back into his stall, treated more akin to a motorcycle than a living being.

As time went on he shut down and became apathetic to his imidiate surroundings, always rigidy staring outside. Only when ridden he really paid heed to input and hence was still good enough to be shown, even if getting him towards and on a trailer was a stressful affair, even if hed drag his handler towards the nearest open door, even if he barely showed any emotion of life anymore.

He was eventually put up for sale as his owner at the time moved and couldnt bring him. Otherwise he wouldve been kept in a stall for a couple years more, eventually to be sold due to no longer "being the sports partner" that the owner needed.

Scorch came to his now forever home with the name Oreo, which was swiftly changed. Besides his shut down and apathetic mindset, he also displayed massive fear of trailers and similarly tight spaces in general, as well as a lack of attention towards handlers. When he was released from quarantine, he seemed barely able to belive that he found himself on a large paddock and not in yet another stall.

Over time he was re trained and opened up to his handler, finding himself able to enjoy life more and more again. He is a steadfast and loyal companion.

His goofy side can really come out when hes with his handler. Not always, but often enough. Some of his antics include:

-picking his handler up by the scruff and carrying her around for a short bit, usually ending in him placing her in a slightly inconvenient spot

-picking her up to try and get her to loose one of her boots

-stealing boots for a game of keep away

-taking boots to a nearby water source, placing it down and dumping sips of water into it

-often carrying his squeaky chicken around like a dog its favourite toy, stashing it at a safe spot if he doesnt

-loves kiddy pools filled with ice
