Trail ride

They were halfway up the sea side mountains. Starting early had paid off, eleven am and theyd made it this far. The tranquil old growth woods had since been left behind and now the terrain was made up of knee height herbs, grass, flowers and shrubberry.
The black stallion was relaxed and content, just like his rider. They enjoyed the gentle breeze and the slowly warming sun. Prior to this Azura, the rider, had finished a project that had taken a couple all nighters and shed been happy to go on an adventure now that all work was done. She loved her work and to pull her all nighters, it was a fierce passion of hers, but shed learned to enjoy times of rest too. Espechially when those were spend doing something engaging. Sitting simply still was only okay sometimes, in certain circumstances.
An adventure with Scorch was just the perfect thing. The stallion loved to be outside and up and about. He had endless endurance regarding this and was just an all around great companion for a long distance trip. From their home over the mountains, crossing the plains which were flooded this time of year and onto a train that took them to the sea. Pets on puplic transportation were very much allowed in their world and Azura made full use of it. A sleepover at a friends sisters cousins place and off they were.

Scorch walked along a small, slightly overgrown dirt path. The rhytmic hoofsteps and soft rocking of the saddle were relaxing and comforting. His rider was at ease. She took a deep breath of the clean air and sighed, letting go of all tension. Scorch too was happy. He loved this way of life, with both a sense of freedom and companionship.
He occasionally reached for a long blade of grass or recieved a piece of apple or banana from his rider, whod brought many snacks for the two to share. Shed pat his neck or play with his short, white mane. Sometimes shed reach down from the tall stallions back to grap a piece of greenery that hed missed and offered it to him. As they went on, she gathered a handful of flowers that shed made into a flower crown. Granted it wasnt the most beautiful, but Scorch seemed to like it. It looked very cute on him and matched his yellow and blue eyes.

Azura made a second one which he liked as well, taste wise.
They made good progress as the day wore on. In the afternoon, theyd reached a nearby mountain pass and in the evening, theyd found a nice spot to rest for the night. It was a wooden shelter build for travellers like them, although that night no one else was there. For dinner the two went foraging. Scorch grazed among the mountain fields and Azura gathered whatever edible things she found, among them a snake which she ate raw. She even passed a small piece of it to Scorch, knowing hed gladly take the opportunity. He also got some bits of sweets, Scorch happened to like the ones Azura didnt.
The saddle served as a headrest, the blanket as extra padding. Azura loved the scent of horses. It was familiar and warm. She huddled into the sleeping bag and turned to look out the shelter. There was Scotch, a jet black silouette against the dark, cloudy sky. His white mane and tail caught what little light there was. The stallions white legs were covered by the grass, which he was lazily pulling from. Not very selectivly he was, taking whatever remotely good thing he found. The sound of him munching combined with the sleepingbags warmth and the horses scent lulled Azura into a deep, calm sleep.
