Cider is a mare of complex circumstance. She originates from a herd of feral Loshenkas located near Rendezvous Ranch. Her herd is the result of a breeder no longer wishing to keep them, and instead of taking the proper steps to make sure his animals were taken care of, he dumped them with the generations-old mustang herd on the ranches reserve. Over a couple of weeks, the stallions were rounded up as well as a few mares that walked right up to the humans. Ciders mom refused to be caught again, her mistrust too great. She taught Cider her says of defending herself and her herd. Over time, she grew to be a great lead mare at a young age. With no stallions around, it was only her and two other mares. 

Eventually, vets observed that the mares were declining, except for Cider. Roundup attempts were unsuccessful for the mares as Cider would outsmart their efforts and lead her mares away. Until one day, they were simply blow-darted and hauled off. Cider decided to run at this point, heartbroken at the loss of her herd and remained alone for a long time. 

Eventually, she meets a tame Loshenka and befriends her. They decide to make up a plan to break her out, and Cider steals her for herself. The mares humans look frantically for her, but Cider has already hidden her away in the mountains.
