Phase 2: Learning

Elanor had been training with Trivia for ten days now.

“Good girl, good job!” she praised, scratching the mare’s shoulder affectionately. “Two more times and we’ll wrap up the session.”

Positioning herself in front of Trivia, Elanor took two steps backward. But the mare stepped forward instead.

“Nope,” Elanor said firmly, “you already know this—back up and stand still.”
She pointed the long dressage whip toward the leg that the mare had moved. Instantly, Trivia responded, shifting her hoof back into place.

“Alright, let’s try that one more time, Triv,” Elanor encouraged as she stepped back again. However, this time the mare stayed still.

“See? I knew you could do it. Good job!” she smiled. “Come on, let’s find something to eat. I’m fasting—and I know you are too.”
