[Phase 1] The First Meet

As I saw and read through both of the files, I went to go see the two horses in person. The one was very agitated that I was even by his stall and the other was just going back and forth standing at the stall door. As a first project horse I wanted to start with one that wasn’t trying to hurt me and the mare was sweet so she won me over.

I read over her file that explained to me that she had been a show horse and a very good one at that. Knowing that these type of show horses were typically kept in stalls for majority of their lives to prevent potential injuries due to turnout, was causing her unnecessary amounts of stress both on her joints and her mentality.

I stood by to watch her weaving back and forth for an hour, which I did her her cribbing a little bit but it wasn’t that often or for very long. I knew this was a sign of stress and boredom, I knew that I could help her get to a point where being kept inside is not stressful or boring to that degree. I put her rope halter onto her and led her out of the stall towards my trailer. I could see she weaved for hours on end based off the imprint in the dirt floor of the stall. There I loaded her up and took her back to my ranch. As we pulled into the driveway there was a very noisy welcome from a certain resident on the ranch. It was Paco.
