Smokey and Jello's Christmas Galavant
Smokey and Jello's Christmas Galavant !
(Prompt #23 Christmas Lights)
When the snow first began to fall, the frost merely coated the ground. Now, Smokey snips stood in deep snow, his hooves making gashes in its thickness as he trudged out of the barn. Not entirely un-allowed, he trotted through blistering snow he wouldn't usually be able to see through. However, the Christmas lights drew him ever further from the barn and closer to the cabin. Only to find even more lights than last he checked.
"Hey, get away from there!" came the gallop of the hooves which trotted up towards the lit-up outdoor fir looming over the foreboding shape.
The shape of - - - a cat?
"Get away from what?" meowed the striped gray tabby with tufted ears who responded to Smokey.
"You're a little too close to those lights... don't you think?" Smokey huffed, his hooves finally fastened down to solid ground.
"Hey, it's not me who's had a little shock before!" the feline snickered at the appaloosa stallion above him.
Smokey's snip on his classic champagne snout bobbed up and down as he couldn't help but chuckle. In remembrance of the time he had tripped over his own share of lights outdoors. As Jello the cat pawed at the sparkly array, Smokey couldn’t help but feel a hypocrite. Jello's big belly bobbed up and down as he investigated the spiral shape of the decorated outdoor tree he usually would be safe to play with. My tree anyways, mumbled Jello to himself.
Perfect name, for a big ol' fat cat! Was Smokey's last thought before he remembered the shock of what curiosity can do. Taking his muzzle, he playful smeared the ol' cat in the snow, pushing him aside. What an odd, side-ways snow angel. With Jello's thick Maine-coon pelt, the snow shed off him as he shook.
As his large tail flicked in frustration, the snow re-covered all the snow which they’d disturbed.
"You ruined the snow angel!" Smokey chortled.
"You mean the snow-smear?" the cat trolled.
Smokey’s own tail bobbed up and down as he strutted, swishing with the idea of irking the small animal who he called his friend. With the other Loshenkas choosing the barn, Smokey couldn’t help but take awhile more to visit the new lights set up around the ranch within the wilderness they called home. An Elk call could be heard in the distance, rattling off the mountains at either side.
“If you wanna keep me from having fun so bad, and you like those lights so much, why don’t you go find Rudolph?” the feline teased.
“Who needs Rudolph when you have real Reindeer?” Smokey countered, the snow on his own mane and tail seamlessly falling off as he trotted, Jello now following him around the border of the ranch which Smokey couldn’t help but investigate either.
“If a snow leopard comes on down here, you’re gonna be a great charcuterie board!” Jello teased, not even in his own words, but from the words of some other reasonable Loshenka.
“Get it? Charcuterie? Since the humans always put them out for the Holidays?” Jello just had to point out his own personal touch.
“Oh yes. I get it. I get it!” Smokey rolled his eyes, turning instead to the lights in the distance which would also indicate neighbors they wouldn’t normally be able to see.
Only more neighs can be heard from across the way.
“Wonder what the others think of the lights.” Smokey thought aloud.
“Well, they’re not still colts like you!”
“I mean, some of them have to be colts too- I mean- I’m not a colt!!! I’m about five years old now. Ya dig?” Smokey stomped his words into the dirt.
Jello only chuffed, his mouth hanging open in sarcasm. Especially as he chose a safer spot on the young stallion’s back. Though Smokey flinched, he was beginning to get used to the paws of the barn cats.
“So, speaking of the other Loshenka, what about all the other barn cats?” Smokey thought to ask.
Jello rolled his eyes, “Oh, you know, they’re alllll over at Ms. Holly’s property. ‘Heated straw cat hotel’ they say. I say, I’m a Maine coon!”
Jello’s little chin jutted out just over his fat belly. Snickers chuckled. He just likes to be spoiled outdoors and not indoors.
