[Prompt 1 Scarecrow] Zelda and Flynn (and Silent 3rd wheeling)

“Easy girl.” Hazel said, her soft voice comforting me as we trotted through the fields. The ground was covered in straw which wasn’t particularly comfortable but I put up with it. The ride itself was a lot of fun, and Hazel was soft on my mouth. The cold bit stung a little, but at least she wasn’t yanking on me. To my right, Silent and Hunter were trotting, but they seemed to be having a little tiff. Silent was mini-rearing and Hunter was cursing. To my left, Flynn and James were also trotting. He was so hot, the way he was moving. I’m so glad I get to call him mine. And I mean it's a win win, Hazel calls James hers as well. It’s perfect.

“Stop. Fucking. Yanking. On. Me.” Silent growled, going all the way up into a rear. Hunter couldn’t understand him, but once Silent finally crashed down to the ground, Hunter jumped off.

“I have no idea what’s going on with you, but you need to knock it off.” Hunter said, the scent of fury and anger rising off of him. I didn’t see Hunter yank on Silent, but Silent was generally sensitive. I felt a small pat on my shoulder. Hazel.

She was beautiful. Her eyes a soft hazel brown, her hair a gentle deeper brown, and her clothes always matched with my tack, which I appreciated. Flynn always made fun of me for it, but hey a woman, or a mare, has to feel pretty. Speaking of women, Hazel and I were the only females in the group, which meant we were constantly getting pissed off.

I met Flynn’s gorgeous light blue eyes. He gave a reassuring bob of his head. “I know.” He whispered. I don’t think I could love anyone more than him. I doubt even my own foal, if I ever have one. I know if we decide to have a foal though, Flynn will be the best father ever.

Hazel gave a soft tap of her heel, and I realized I had stopped. Silent was still rearing up, as usual. “Do you think we should tell him?” I asked. Flynn looked at me puzzled.

“Tell who what?” He asked, his eyes searching mine.

“Hunter. That Silent is really sensitive in his mouth.” I responded, now searching his eyes. He bowed his head a little.

“Only Silent can do that.” He whispered, inching closer to me. James didn’t seem to mind. Our muzzles met. His soft pink nose tickling my own pink nose. I giggled.

We returned our minds to the path ahead of us, and our riders. Hunter had taken Silent back to the stable, so it was just us now. James and Hazel talked about various different topics. How their day was, what they thought about us, which I’m not going to lie was rude since we were walking right there. Anyway, they also talked about the house and stable which had been the cause of a fight between them a week ago. They talked it out, and even as Hazel tensed above me, it didn’t end up in another one of their screaming matches, which I was quite thankful for.

“Why don’t we race?” James suggested. I felt Hazel get that giddy excitement that comes when she’s really happy. I love this.

“Yes!” She exclaimed, bending over enough to whisper to me, “Let’s smoke ‘em girl.” Hell yeah! I love leaving Flynn in the dust.

“Ready. Set. Go!” James exclaimed. Hazel gave me a harder tap, and I took off. Flynn and I kept stride for a few minutes, not being able to outrun each other. Yet. It had to have been at least two minutes, Flynn was losing stamina. I crept forward, slowly gaining on him. The cold air gave me this thrill. Yeah running does that, but running at night, in a field, with crisp air? Even better. My legs ached as I pushed myself faster. Hazel didn’t push me to go any faster, but I wanted to. My breaths came in loud and uneven, everything whizzed by.

“Hell yeah!” Hazel screamed from my back, dropping my reins. It felt so freeing, so relaxing, just amazing. I slowly came to a stop, not wanting to throw Hazel off. I panted, the cold air stinging my nose and lungs, but regardless it felt so good.

Hazel gave me a big pat on the shoulder, and reached down to offer me a treat. I turned my head to grab it from her hand, munching on toffee. My favorite.

I looked at Flynn. Yeah he was fast, but not quite as fast as me. “Holy, Zelda.” He panted when he finally caught up to us.

“Zelda is insanely fast.” James panted, a big smile painted on his face. I didn’t know James that well, but he treated me well, which I enjoyed. He’s the one who found out my favorite treat is toffee.

“I think we won.” Hazel chucked, giving me more pats on my shoulder.

“You think?” James asked, now also laughing.

“I love you.” I whispered to Flynn.

“I love you too.” He panted. I cleared the meter between us, leaving the space required for our riders legs and feet.

As I looked around, I saw people. Lot’s of them. They were big and skinny. “What the fuck is that?” I screeched, my eyes wild. Flynn looked around.

“Oh my god.” He shivered, taking off in the opposite direction. I followed him, Hazel screaming.

“Zelda! What’s going on!” She screamed, trying to balance herself in the saddle as I quickened the pace. “Zelda!” She screeched, leaning for my reins. I couldn’t see much, and I couldn’t feel much either.

I came to a sliding halt as I saw one of the men before me. Hazel tried to keep her seat, but flew a little. I reared.

“Zelda it's a scarecrow!” Hazel whimpered. A scarecrow? But, scarecrows looked cool, not scary. They didn’t loom to this height did they? Then I saw straw sticking out of it.

“Oops.” I faltered.

Flynn had stopped too, James got off of him and ran to Hazel. “Hazel!” He panted.

“I’m alright.” She winced. Oh god, what have I done?
