PHASE THREE
“1, 2, 3 and hup!” I called out.
Erastí leaped over the woodland decorated jump, his ears forward and engaged. Over the past few weeks we’ve been trying him with different disciplines to see where he excels. Racing was obviously out of the question; I would even go as far as saying he would experience trauma on the track again. Dressage definitely wasn’t his thing either, he was too springy and fast under saddle. We found that he enjoyed jumping quite a lot, cross country jumps in particular. He could run and run and burn off some of that energy!
He trotted over to me, lowering his head for a kiss. I smiled and pouted my lips, leaving a big smooch on his snoot. “You’ve come so far my boy. I couldn’t be prouder.”
Erastí whinnied and walked away back over to the jump, stomping his feet and staring at me eagerly. “You wanna go again? Go on then you wild spirit!”
He bolted into a fast canter past me, the breeze blowing against my hair. I quickly grabbed my phone from my pocket, pulled the camera up, and snapped a photo just as he leaped over the jump.
Staring down at the photo, tears of joy pooled in my eyes. Erastí rested his head on my shoulder, his hot breath mingling with mine.
“See boy? It does get better. I love you.”
