Bonus Prompt #3: Alone and Ok

As I watched Socks in the distance on this crisp autumn evening I reminisced on how far the pretty spotted mare had come. The mare grazing calmly and quietly was a far cry from the anxious and neglected horse that had arrived at the ranch just a few months ago. Now that the mare was happy and healthy, she’s made so much progress in a relatively short amount of time. We go out on regular trail rides and I’ve even trailered her to a couple of local shows and events just for fun and to help build up her confidence. I’m still unsure if I will train her in a particular discipline or if she’ll just be a beloved ranch horse.

Also, Greg finally has her on a more normal schedule for her hooves and is no longer too concerned for her feet. He says she’s made a full recovery thankfully. He still greatly appreciates how gentle and easy she is for him to trim. 

As I took one last look at Socks before heading back to the barn she lifted her head softly and nickered towards me. It got me thinking, maybe I should reach out to that girl Mollie, the great-granddaughter of the man who used to own Socks, and let her know how she was doing. Maybe even invite her out to the ranch. If it wasn’t for her who knows how long those horses could’ve been out there, they could’ve all died before anyone else even realized... I shuddered at the horrid thought and pushed it out of my mind. Everything is ok now and Socks and I will go for a nice long trail ride up the valley in the morning.
