Phase 2: Vet Visit

The vet arrived at Alison’s barn. Thunder roared, is was pouring rain out, trees howled in the wind. The vet walked into the barn “Hey Alison, what’s the problem today?” Alison replied “I rescued this horse, she seems to be limping pretty badly, I want to make sure she’s ok, can you give her an examination? She’s pretty head shy so it might be a little difficult if you wanna examine her eyes or anything.” The vet whose name was Mark walked back to his truck and pulled out all his equipment. Mark did a very thorough examination on Rosebud. “It looks like she’s got a cyst in her foot that will need to be soaked in epsom salts, she obviously wasn’t starved, she’s in excellent shape other then the hoof abscess!” Mark explained. “Will the hoof be a one time fix or will it be a reoccurring issue?” Alison asked Mark, Mark answered “it all depends on the care, if you keep her hooves clean and out of mud for long periods of time it should be ok, make sure you trim her hooves as she needs it and it shouldn’t be a problem.” “Thank you so much for your help, I’ll make sure to clean her hoof and keep it in a dry environment as much as possible!” Alison exclaimed. Mark grabbed all his equipment and adventured off into the storm, the wind blew the door shut as he left the barn. Alison soaked Rosebuds hoof in the epsom salts for roughly twenty minutes, then she dried the hoof led Rosebud into the stall.

The next morning Alison went and soaked Rosebuds hoof in the epsom salts for another twenty minutes, made sure her hoof was clean and not getting any worse. She continued to soak her hoof everyday, a week later it was looking much better than before. Rosebud could now walk without being in pain, she no longer limped around, and was more comfortable standing then she was before. Alison was hoping that Rosebuds recovery would be fast so she can get to training her.

As she hoped Rosebud recovered very fast, a new type of energy was found in her, she was so happy and spunky, she jumped with joy every time Alison was in sight. Whenever Rosebud got pasture time, she ran around with all the mares in the pasture, no one can limit this horses spirit now that she’s not in anymore pain. She is gonna start her training her momentarily, hoping that her hoof abscess will not return! Rosebud seems very enthusiastic to start her training, she’s been out in the pasture and seen other horses being ridden, every single time she goes over to them and seems very curious about the tack.
