PROMPT: CHECKUP

It'd only been three days since Cahira's arrival to Wild River Ranch and Hitomi felt she'd settled in enough to be vetted by Clare. And so it was, how three days after Cahira's arrival, that Clare was going over the mare with a fine toothed comb. So far, blood had been drawn, she'd been microchipped to the Ranch for safety purposes, and she'd been checked over by the farrier. So far, nothing abnormal had been found, that was till Clare had spotted what had, at first, appeared to be just a 'beauty mark' on the mare's right hip. But something about the marking had raised red flags in Clare's mind. Something was off and she wanted to know what it was and had ordered x-rays and while Hitomi gently rubbed Cahira's head, the x-rays were taken and developed via the portable computer Clare had brought with her to the barn. It was her sudden, sharp intake of breath, that had Hitomi moving to stand next to her and upon doing so, upon seeing the computer screen, she froze at what she was seeing.

There, on the screen, was a jumbled white mass of bone. Freshly healed but she would know it anywhere. She'd seen similar injuries on her own horses whenever they'd decided to mess with the bulls. "So. That explains why she's terrified of livestock. Why she was all but dumped at the rescue's facility. She was freaking gored by a bull or something with a horn!" Muttered Hitomi, her voice filled with fury that no one had told the rescue, had even withheld the information, thereby putting Cahira's life at risk. "If they hadn't surrendered her, she would of ended up in the pipeline." Muttered Clare, equally angry on the mare's behalf. Sighing, Hitomi gazed at Cahira and shook her head. "We've a long road ahead of us, but we'll get there." She stated firmly and with conviction. "I'm not giving up on her. And when this event closes, she'll be our best success story, thus far." Muttered Hitomi as she moved to Cahira's head and gently held it against her chest while the mare whickered softly.
