Hello Beautiful - Phase 1
Harper would look at the contents of the folder she was handed with excitement, she couldn't wait to meet her horse for the makeover. She was reading over the horses issues while following the volunteer. Her horse was partially deaf and blind, this would make for an interesting time. Harper had never actually worked with a horse with either of those issues so this would certainly be a good challenge. She couldn't believe her eyes when she saw the beautiful mare, this was the horse she was to work with and she couldn't wait. The mare seemed a bit anxious doing a little steppy hop in place, it also said that she was touch sensitive, getting her in the trailer might be a major struggle. Harper was let in by the volunteer, she carefully approached the mare "hey girl, I'm just taking you to your new home, don't you worry" she made sure to speak quite loudly so the mare wouldn't get startled by not knowing Harper was there. It had worked cause her ears perked head turned right in Harpers direction. Harper carefully yet quickly put on the halter she had brought, to try and make the panic minimal. She hopped back letting the mare freak out for a moment until she was calmed enough to clip the lead on. She would then slowly coax the mare all the way to the trailer. This mare was rearing, screeching, and trying to pull away the entire way to the trailer. Once Harper had managed to get her loaded it was time for their about 18+ hour drive home. They had gotten to Maple Wood Equestrian Centre at around 8pm the next day they took a few breaks in there and she had let the mare out just about at all their stops. The struggle to get her back in was the same as the first time, every time. Harper would proceed to get the halter off of the mare while she was still in the trailer as she knew she'd try to bolt out the moment the trailer door opened, and she didn't want her to get hurt doing so. Harper would go around and open the door watching the mare dash out, she got a few bucks in before pausing. It was like this mare had never been in a grass pasture before, she was immediately rolling around in the grass. Well it was good to know she was happy with her new home, welcome home 6422.
Event: 2023 Loshenka Makeover
Phase Number: Phase 1
Issues: Partially Blind, Deaf, Touch-sensitive
Description: This horse was born partially blind and deaf, and as a result, hasn’t been used for much. They’re well beyond foalhood, and have started to become more and more troublesome at the barn due to lack of stimulation. To make matters worse, they’re extremely sensitive to touch and easy to startle, so it can be hard to teach them new things without causing anxiety.
