Paloma was born on a very prestigious western show horse ranch. She grew up doted on by the stable grooms and received the highest quality care available. When she was broken in she immediately took to having someone on her back, but she hated her job. Western Pleasure caused her stress and even when they pushed her into doing her first show, she felt trapped and flipped over on her rider.

This earned her the title of being dangerous and unpredictable. Pal was left on the backburner for a few years before being put for sale at the yards yearly youngstock sale. It was odd to have an older horse put into this sale as it meant the horse wasn't good enough to be kept after being considered a keeper. So interest wasn't much on her. Besides that, a tag was on her door labeling why they aren't keeping her and warning or the "danger" that she posed.

However, that did not mean it was the end of the line for her. One of the Rendezvous Ranch hands took great interest in Paloma and had been her dams handler when Pal was a suckling, so they had some history. The young man insisted on Freja and Lacey bidding for the mare who was all of five years old at this point. They won her bus with hardly any contest from others.

But this was not the happy ending to her story. The man who was assigned to haul Paloma home on a 6 hour truck ride became drunk and his truck and trailer was flipped on a highway in Montana. The three horses inside survived, including Pal, but were panicked and all scrambled when the rear door fell open. Injured, lost, and terrified, the little herd scrambled into the mountains.
